BLUE SENSE

The protection of critical maritime infrastructure requires continuous and flexible surveillance of vast areas at sea and in port environments. Drones can play an important role in this regard, but existing systems are often designed for commercial applications and do not provide sufficient guarantees in terms of data sovereignty, control, and secure information exchange. Security and government services need a solution that enables them to safely and autonomously deploy existing drone infrastructure for operational maritime missions.

BLUE SENSE addresses this need by demonstrating a secure and sovereign drone infrastructure that enables existing drone capabilities to be deployed operationally for maritime surveillance, inspections, and incident response.

Objective

BLUE SENSE aims to demonstrate how existing civilian drone infrastructure can be transformed into a secure, scalable, and sovereign service for maritime security stakeholders. The project seeks to enable continuous situational awareness by seamlessly connecting drones, communication networks, and operational control centres.

Approach

The project develops an infrastructure in which fixed and mobile drone platforms are directly connected to the operational control centres of competent authorities through a secure 5G network. By using segmented data flows, secure communication channels, and a user-friendly operator environment, multiple organisations can autonomously deploy the same infrastructure. The demonstration phase will validate the platform's performance in realistic maritime operational scenarios.
